The soft-top pickup idea isn’t just a concept for Jeep anymore

Following months of small teases and growing anticipation, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is finally set to unveil the next generation of Jeep Wrangler vehicles tomorrow at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Jeep enthusiasts eager to learn more about the JL model of the Wrangler will finally have their hunger for knowledge satiated.

Of course, the latest Wrangler isn’t the only Jeep vehicle that has automotive enthusiasts excited. The Wrangler-based pickup truck, rumored to possess the Scrambler nameplate, is also in the works, with plenty of details surrounding the model emerging.

The latest of those details revealed that the Scrambler will have a soft-top option.

Much like the upcoming Wrangler iteration, the Jeep Scrambler pickup will come with an optional droptop. This will allow the Scrambler to truly earn the convertible title many expected it would have.

The concept of a convertible Jeep pickup is nothing new for the brand. Back in 2016, Jeep revealed its Crew Chief 715 concept vehicle, which also included a soft-top option.

Creating a convertible pickup model was something of a challenge to Jeep, as, much like with the latest Wrangler model, Jeep had to redesign the model’s roof supports to adequately meet updated safety regulation. Still, if these reports are to be believed, Jeep evidently figured out a way to make it work.

The Scrambler is currently scheduled to enter production in November 2018 at FCA’s Toledo Assembly Complex. Between then and now, we are likely to learn more about this exciting new Jeep vehicle.
