2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Max Trailering Rating Stays at 12,000
Just like its Silverado sibling, the 2015 GMC Sierra max trailering rating will stay at 12,000 pounds, even with the new SAE J2807 Recommended Practices. These “Recommended Practices” include updated test protocols and calculation formulas to determine max trailer weight ratings.
“For 2015, the GMC Sierra 1500 builds on the strong foundation introduced with the redesigned 2014 model to offer uncompromising strength, capability and confidence,” said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer. “The implementation of SAE J2807 levels the playing field among all manufacturers, affirming the capability customers depend on from GMC.”
The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 max trailering rating of 12,000 pounds carries over from the 2014 Sierra 1500 model, and can be achieved in the Double Cab 2WD model with the available 6.2-liter V8 engine and the Max Trailering Package.
With the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 and the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, drivers can still get significant max trailering ratings. With the 4.3-liter, drivers can reach 7,600 pounds, and with the 5.3-liter, they can tow up to 11,200 pounds.
