2017 Ford Escape Overview

The 2017 Ford Escape is a small crossover utility vehicle that carries a starting MSRP of $23,600. The Ford Escape has been significantly restyled for the 2017 model year. Changes to the vehicle include updated exterior styling, new entertainment technology, and more powerful engine options. The new Escape competes in the same segment as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5.

What’s New for the 2017 Ford Escape?

Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system has been updated and now features an enhanced voice recognition system, as well as quicker response times. Another new feature is FordPass with the Sync Connect app, which can be used to start the Escape’s engine, check fluid levels, or simply just locate the vehicle in a crowded parking lot, among other uses. The new Escape also benefits from a refreshed exterior design, new color options, and a redesigned cabin. The 2017 Ford Escape is offered in three trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium.

The 2017 version of the Ford Escape wears a new hexagonal grille, which replaces the trapezoidal shaped grille of the previous model year. The 2017 Escape also features new bold headlight and taillight designs, as well as sporting a new aluminum hood. Consumers who are looking for a more fierce design may opt for the new Sport Appearance package, which provides 19-inch Ebony Black painted alloy-wheel wheels and black accents around the grille, mirror caps, and lamp bezels. 2017 Ford Escape Performance

The 2017 Ford Escape comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Taking a step up to the SE and Titanium trims means your Escape will feature a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo motor rated at 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbo four-cylinder is also available that’s good for 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft or toque. Both of the turbo options include auto start/stop technology that’s designed to improve fuel economy, while all three engine options are matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift capability. Furthermore, the 2017 Escape is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with the 240-horsepower turbo engine, as well as the intelligent all-wheel drive system.

The 2017 Ford Escape provides seating for up to five people and comes with significant changes for the new model year. A new electronic parking brake has been added and the shifter has been moved further back, which allowed for a restyled center console that includes improved cupholders and storage space. Besides offering new USB ports and a redesigned steering wheel, the 2017 Escape also offers an updated version of the Sync 3 infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen. The new infotainment system is said to be much more responsive and comes with improved voice recognition technology than the prior version. As for storage space, the 2017 Escape offers 34 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and that number grows to 68 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded downward.

While every model of the 2017 Ford Escape comes standard with a rear view camera and LED tailights, Ford also offers additional safety technology such as its adaptive cruise control system, which allows the driver to set a predetermined speed, but when sensors detect a slower moving vehicle directly ahead, it can adjust the speed of the Escape until the driver passes the slower automobile. The new Escape also offers a lane-keeping system that will alert the driver via vibrations in the steering-wheel if the Escape is veering out of its lane.
