2020 Nissan Maxima Earns “Superior” Rating for Pedestrian Detection
When it comes to pedestrian detection capabilities, not all vehicles are created equal. Nissan vehicles, however, rank among the best on the market.
Nissan’s pedestrian detection technology earned a “Superior” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That’s the highest rating it can earn, putting Nissan squarely alongside luxury automakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The IIHS praised the Nissan Maxima, in particular, for being a standout vehicle during testing.
About the 2020 Nissan Maxima
The Nissan Maxima is a full-size sedan that’s loaded with innovative safety technology, even at the base trim level. Every Maxima is equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility and Safety Shield 360. This suite of active safety features includes the IIHS-approved Pedestrian Detection System with Automatic Emergency Braking, designed to prevent or mitigate collisions. The Maxima’s other smart safety features include Rear Automatic Braking, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Assist.
The Maxima lives up to its billing as a four-door sports car with its 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque while earning 30 mpg on the highway. Inside, it boasts a number of refinements, including standard remote-start capabilities with dual-zone climate control and adjustable ambient lighting. For more luxury, choose the available climate-controlled front seats, heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats. The Maxima offers plenty of style, too — in addition to standard cloth and available leather seats, you can choose between semi-aniline leather-appointed seats and premium ascot leather-appointed seat inserts.
The Maxima’s impressive qualities don’t stop there. For two years running, JD Power has ranked the Nissan Maxima as number one in initial quality.
