The Frontier remains an important model in Nissan’s truck lineup, especially as midsize pickups continue to compete on design, utility, and equipment rather than outright size. For 2027, Nissan appears focused on refining the existing formula instead of introducing major mechanical revisions.

Alongside the Sport Edition Package, the automaker is also making a few smaller adjustments across the lineup, including a new exterior paint color and updated charging technology. The core structure of the Frontier range, including cab configurations and trim hierarchy, stays unchanged.

Sport Edition Package Introduces Rugged Exterior Upgrades

The new Sport Edition Package adds several exterior features intended to give the Frontier SV a more rugged appearance. According to Motor1, the truck receives an aluminum skid plate and 17-inch off-road-style wheels wrapped in 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires.

Nissan also equips the package with LED fog lights and front accent lighting. The exterior design is further distinguished by yellow-accented “Sport” bedside graphics, a black grille, black mirror caps, and a black tailgate badge.

The changes are mostly visual, though the addition of all-terrain tires and the skid plate aligns the truck more closely with off-road-oriented variants in the lineup. Nissan has not announced any suspension or drivetrain modifications tied to the package.

Interior Receives Yellow-Accented Details

Inside the cabin, Nissan continues the Sport Edition theme with several yellow design accents spread throughout the interior. The black seats feature yellow contrast stitching, while the same color treatment extends to the grab handles, dashboard, seatback embroidery, and shift lever.

Additional yellow accents are also integrated into the doors. The overall cabin layout remains consistent with the standard Frontier SV configuration, with the changes focused mainly on trim and appearance details rather than new technology or revised materials.

The Sport Edition Package is intended to sit between the standard SV and the more specialized Pro-4X trim, offering buyers another styling-focused option within the lineup.

Frontier Keeps Its Naturally Aspirated V6 for 2027

The 2027 Frontier continues to use Nissan’s naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 engine. The powertrain produces 310 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Nissan continues to emphasize the naturally aspirated setup at a time when many competitors are adopting turbocharged or hybrid powertrains. The Frontier maintains a maximum towing capacity of 7,150 pounds.

Other updates for the 2027 model year remain limited. Nissan is adding a new exterior color called Alpine Metallic, while the Pro Convenience Package now includes upgraded Qi2 wireless charging.

The lineup will continue to consist of four trims: S, SV, Pro-X, and Pro-4X. The King Cab configuration remains exclusive to the Frontier S trim, while the four-door Crew Cab is available across the rest of the range. Nissan also confirmed the return of the Dark Armor Package and the Pro-4X R Package.

Pricing for the 2027 Frontier and the new Sport Edition Package will be announced closer to the truck’s arrival in dealerships this summer. The 2026 Frontier King Cab S currently starts at $33,895, while the 2026 Frontier Crew Cab Pro-4X Long Bed reaches $44,115.
