The Nissan Kicks has become one of the brand’s key compact SUVs in several markets. While American buyers receive the model with a conventional 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, Nissan is taking a different approach in its domestic market by pairing the vehicle with a hybrid system designed around electric propulsion.
This marks the first time Nissan has offered its e-Power technology in the Kicks in Japan. The launch represents a significant update for the model as the second-generation version arrives in the country.
Nissan Introduces Third-Generation E-Power Technology in the Kicks
The new Japanese-market Kicks is equipped with Nissan’s third-generation e-Power hybrid powertrain. The system combines a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery setup.
The gasoline engine functions as a generator for the battery, which in turn supplies energy to the electric motor that drives the vehicle. Nissan states that this is the first time the Kicks in Japan has been offered with the e-Power system.
The compact SUV will go on sale in Japan on June 18 as part of the rollout of the second-generation model.

Additional Drivetrain and Chassis Upgrades Arrive with the Japanese Model
Alongside the new hybrid powertrain, Nissan is equipping the Kicks with its e-4ORCE electric all-wheel-control technology. The vehicle also receives a revised suspension setup.
The Kicks sold in the United States continues to use a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower. The front-wheel-drive version of the Japanese-market hybrid Kicks delivers the same 141-horsepower output.
These updates differentiate the Japanese version from the model currently available in the U.S., even though both vehicles share the Kicks nameplate.

Four Trim Levels and a Lower Starting Price than the U.S. Version
Nissan will offer the Japanese-market Kicks in four trim levels: X, X+, X Simple Package, and G.
The range-topping Kicks G features gloss-black bumper finishes. The remaining trims are distinguished by dimpled cladding along the lower portion of the vehicle. Inside, the SUV is fitted with dual 12.3-inch displays spanning the dashboard.
According to Motor1, pricing for the hybrid-powered Kicks starts at ¥2,999,700, which corresponds to $18,723 at the exchange rate cited in the report. By comparison, the Kicks sold in the United States starts at $24,275, including destination charges.
The Japanese-market launch begins on June 18, bringing the second-generation Kicks and Nissan’s latest e-Power hybrid technology to the company’s home market.
