2020 Won’t Include Diesel Option on Chevrolet Equinox
Although a powerful engine option that delivered a responsive performance and impressive fuel efficiency ratings, the 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine-equipped Chevy Equinox will not be a choice in 2020.

Low demand may be the fundamental reason for Chevy to discontinue the engine, Kevin Kelly, spokesman for Chevrolet, told Green Car Reports.
The turbodiesel powertrain of the Equinox is also offered on the Chevy Cruze. It was early 2019 (March) that saw the production halted for that model.
In addition to low consumer demand, there might be other factors that led to Chevrolet suspending a compact crossover powered by a turbodiesel engine.
“It’s unclear what killed the diesel engine in the Equinox, which was rated as high as 28 mpg city, 39 highway, 32 combined by the EPA. Consumers still bitter about VW’s widespread cheating scandal or sticker shock at the $2,400 upcharge for the diesel engine compared to base models could be reasons for the diesel’s short life. Relatively high diesel fuel prices compared to regular unleaded may have also hampered sales,” writes Green Car Reports writer Aaron Cole.
The 2019 Chevy Equinox is available at four trim levels — L, LS, LT, and Premier. The well-equipped model features the Chevrolet Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability for seamless smartphone integration and available 4G LTE Wi-Fi. A wireless charging system is also available.
