2002 Lincoln Continental Concept
The sad likelihood is that the Lincoln Continental is not long for this world. As Ford moves to do away with sedans and other perceived profit killers in its lineup, the Continental wears a particularly large target thanks to the increase in focus on SUVs like the Navigator, newly launched Nautilus and upcoming Aviator.

If the Continental is bound to be relegated to the scrap heap of history, Lincoln seems poised to see that it goes out with a bang. Peep this Instagram post from Thursday:
With a picture of two side-by-side suicide door handles and the all-too ominous closing lines of “#TBT … or is it? Stay tuned,” it would certainly appear that Lincoln is moving to bring back suicide doors for the Continental one last time.
It was first rumored that Lincoln was developing a refreshed take on the Continental with suicide doors in March when dealers attending the 2018 National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Expo confirmed that they saw an image of a Continental with rear-hinged doors and had it confirmed by Lincoln reps that this was in the works.
Ford Authority only adds fuel to the fire by revealing a photo — albeit quite blurry and washed out — that reveals a suicide-door Continental onstage at a Las Vegas dealer meeting with the name Coach Door Continental displayed on a screen behind it. If only Lincoln would do a version with its PHEV powertrain so we could get the 2020 Lincoln Coach Door Continental Grand Touring.
