Mitsubishi has introduced the Eclipse Sportback as part of its expanding range of electrified vehicles. The model is based on the new-generation Nissan Leaf and will arrive as a compact electric vehicle positioned alongside other models in the brand’s portfolio.

While the vehicle shares its underlying architecture with the Leaf, Mitsubishi has revised several exterior elements. The company has not yet released interior images, and detailed specifications, pricing, and the official on-sale date have not been announced.

Exterior Design Receives Mitsubishi-Specific Styling

The front end of the 2027 Eclipse Sportback features a unique fascia carrying Mitsubishi’s Triple Diamond branding. The vehicle also adopts a lighting signature similar to that of the Nissan Leaf, though with its own variation, positioned above a redesigned front bumper.

At the rear, Mitsubishi replaces the Leaf’s taillight design with opposing L-shaped light markers that echo styling cues used at the front of the vehicle. The model also features prominent Mitsubishi lettering across the trunk and a revised rear bumper.

Other visual differences include modified C-pillar trim, side skirts with subtle striations, and a set of distinctive alloy wheels. Mitsubishi has not released any images of the cabin.

Launch Details Remain Limited Ahead of Market Arrival

According to Mitsubishi, the Eclipse Sportback will go on sale during the second half of this year. The automaker stated that additional information concerning specifications, pricing, and the exact launch date will be announced “in the near future.”

The company has not disclosed technical details for the vehicle. Mitsubishi has yet to provide specifications and pricing information for the new model. No interior photographs accompanied the announcement, leaving the cabin design undisclosed at this stage.

Nissan Leaf Powertrain Serves as the Current Reference Point

The new Eclipse Sportback is based on the latest Nissan Leaf, which Nissan offers for the 2026 model year in three trim levels. The entry-level Leaf S+ starts at $31,535, including the $1,545 destination charge.

The Leaf S+ is equipped with a 75-kilowatt-hour battery and a 214-horsepower electric motor. These are the specifications currently associated with the entry-level version of Nissan’s electric hatchback.

The Eclipse Sportback joins the Eclipse Cross in Mitsubishi’s lineup. In Europe, the Eclipse Cross is marketed as a rebodied and rebadged Renault. Motor1 reported that questions remain regarding how extensively Mitsubishi will differentiate the new EV from the Leaf, particularly in terms of powertrain and pricing.
