First shown at the Beijing Auto Show, the model is positioned as a direct challenger to established luxury automakers.

The Chinese manufacturer describes the Denza Z as the world’s first “intelligent electric supercar,” signaling its ambition to combine advanced technology with extreme performance. The vehicle will make its global debut this summer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed after undergoing testing at the Nürburgring.

This launch reflects BYD’s broader push into premium international markets. The Denza Z is expected to compete in a category historically dominated by European brands, marking a significant step in the company’s global strategy.

A Carbon-Focused Design Led by Wolfgang Egger

The Denza Z was presented in a production-ready convertible version with a soft-top retractable roof and a four-seat layout. Its design was overseen by Wolfgang Egger, BYD’s Global Design Director and a figure known in European automotive design.

According to Electrek, the model follows a “Pure Emotion” design theme, integrating carbon fiber across the body, seats, and other components to reduce weight and improve performance. The vehicle also features a hood-mounted air duct intended to increase downforce at high speeds.

BYD describes this aerodynamic approach as enabling a form of “ground-hugging flight,” underlining the emphasis placed on stability and handling in high-performance conditions.

Over 1,000 HP and Fast-Charging Technology

The Denza Z delivers more than 1,000 horsepower, with BYD stating it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. This performance places it among the most powerful electric vehicles currently introduced.

It is equipped with the Blade Battery and the Flash Charging 2.0 system. This combination allows the battery to recharge in as little as five minutes, although further technical specifications have not yet been disclosed.

The expected range is similar to that of the Denza Z9 GT, reaching up to 599 km under the WLTP cycle. The Z9 GT, recently launched in Europe, features a 122.49 kWh battery and a tri-motor setup producing 1,140 horsepower, offering a reference point for the Denza Z’s capabilities.

European Ambitions and Multiple Variants Planned

BYD presents the Denza Z as a major milestone in the automotive industry, aiming at the million-dollar supercar segment traditionally dominated by European manufacturers. The company views the model as a “watershed moment” in its global expansion.

The Denza Z will be available in three versions: Standard, Convertible, and Track, with a public competition currently underway to name each edition. Pricing details remain undisclosed, though the model is expected to cost more than the Denza Z9 GT, which launched in Europe at around €115,000, about $134,500.

The vehicle is currently being tested at Germany’s Nürburgring, a key benchmark for performance validation. Its upcoming debut at Goodwood is expected to serve as its first major appearance on the international stage.
