The car made its production debut at the Beijing Auto Salon, marking a significant step for BYD’s premium Denza brand. The model is expected to appear next at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom, with Europe prioritized over China for its initial rollout.
While full specifications remain undisclosed, the Denza Z already outlines a clear ambition: combining high performance, advanced technology, and comparatively accessible pricing. The approach contrasts with traditional European rivals, both in positioning and cost.
A High-Performance Electric Platform With Advanced Systems
The Denza Z is built on BYD’s e3 platform, the same architecture used by the Denza Z9GT electric wagon. According to InsideEVs, the roadster is expected to deliver a combined output of around 1,000 horsepower, placing it in the same performance bracket as top-tier electric supercars.
The model integrates several advanced technologies, including the DiSus-M electromagnetic suspension and the “God’s Eye” driver assistance system. It will also feature driving modes such as drift mode and “tank turn,” along with automated driving capabilities. These elements highlight BYD’s focus on blending performance with software-driven features.
Although detailed battery specifications have not yet been released, the car will support BYD’s “Flash” charging system, capable of delivering up to 1,500 kilowatts. This could allow charging sessions of under 10 minutes, though precise figures remain to be confirmed.

Design and Positioning Signal a Shift in Chinese EV Strategy
Visually, the Denza Z reflects a departure from earlier perceptions of Chinese automotive design. The rear styling draws comparisons to Ferrari models, while the front end evokes Lamborghini-inspired cues, creating a distinctly European supercar aesthetic.
The vehicle is intended to compete directly with established premium brands, not only in performance but also in design appeal. The model will be offered in three variants: a coupe, a soft-top convertible, and a track-focused version. So far, only the convertible has been officially revealed.
BYD’s decision to prioritize Europe over its domestic market underscores its broader global ambitions. The planned appearance at Goodwood further reinforces this positioning, placing the Denza Z alongside established performance benchmarks.

Pricing Strategy and Market Expectations
One of the most notable aspects of the Denza Z is its projected pricing. Estimates place the car at around $65,000 in China, a figure significantly lower than comparable models such as the Maserati GranCabrio, which starts above $350,000.
It remains unclear whether the Denza Z will maintain this price advantage once it reaches European markets. Pricing details, along with additional technical specifications such as battery capacity, are expected to be announced in July.
The Denza Z enters a segment where expectations are high and competition is limited but intense. Its combination of performance figures, fast-charging capability, and aggressive pricing positions it as a notable entrant, particularly as other anticipated models have yet to materialize.
