However, a V-Series XT4 still remains a possibility for the luxury brand

Unfortunately for speed-loving Cadillac fans, it looks like the brand’s XT5 and XT6 crossovers won’t be receiving high-performance variants any time soon. There is some good news, though — a more powerful version of the smaller XT4 hasn’t been ruled out.

Cadillac Society reports that the luxury brand has ruled out charged-up V-Series versions of its large crossovers for the current generation. Cadillac has long offered V-Series versions of its sedans, but has yet to do so for a crossover.

The XT5 does come in a Sport trim with a 310-horsepower V6 engine, a Sport Control AWD system, real-time chassis damping control, and slick features like 20-inch wheels and gloss black exterior accents. The three-row XT6 also offers a Sport trim with similar features. However, both these trims fall short of consideration as serious high-performance vehicles.

Signs are more positive for a potential Cadillac XT4-V. Leaked (and, it should be noted, unconfirmed) images from earlier this year show an XT4 with V-Series badging, carbon fiber detailing, and quad exhaust tips.

The current XT4 Sport trim offers twin-clutch AWD and an active sport suspension with continuous damping control, but its 2.0-liter turbo engine makes just 237 horsepower — so there’s plenty of opportunity for a performance-boosted version.

As Cadillac considers a high-performance XT4 variant, it’s in the midst of introducing a new two-tiered V-Series strategy for its sedans. The 2020 CT4-V and 2020 CT5-V were unveiled earlier this year with a more entry-level approach to horsepower, but Cadillac is also planning to bring out truly track-ready “Blackwing” versions of these models at a later date.
