Exhibit At The BMW Museum Honors 507
The BMW 507 is an iconic roadster that first hit the road in 1956. Produced only until 1959, this car is also a rare find for many classic car collectors.
To honor the legacy of this roadster, BMW will be opening an exhibition at its museum in Munich. Called “Family Affairs – Variations on a Design Icon,” visitors to BMW’s facility will be able to see the design drafts to see where all of the elements of this car originally came from.
Produced with the assistance of design houses in Italy and the USA, the BMW 507 was intended to be a popular sports car, but the price was so high that only the most rich and famous were able to afford it. Elvis Presley owned one and tooled around Germany with it while he served in the military. After being lost for several years, Elvis’ car has been found and is also on display in the museum while it’s getting ready to be restored by the BMW Classic department.
The BMW 507’s legacy lives on in design elements in current vehicles in the BMW line up. If you’re in Munich anytime soon, check out the exhibition and tell us how it is.
