Forester and Outback Lead Subaru to Best Sales Month Ever
Last month saw Subaru break its own August 2014 record in terms of sales. In August of last year, the automaker moved 50,246 units, but that total was surpassed in July of this year, with 50,517 models sold. This marked a 10.5% increase over July of last year, when Subaru sold 45,714.
Also worth noting: this marks the 17th month in a row that Subaru’s sales have eclipsed 40,000.
“We are delighted to have achieved a new monthly sales record,” remarked Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer at Subaru of America. “We would not have been able to achieve our current level of success without the hard work and dedication of our retailers, employees and independent distributors.”
Specifically, the Subaru Forester led the pack, up 8.9% over the same month last year. In total, 15,811 Foresters were sold—and it’s no wonder, given how popular the 2016 Forester commercial has been. Sales of the Subaru Outback, XV Crosstrek, and Impreza were also strong. Subaru sold nearly 11,000 units of the Outback, and sales of the Impreza and Crosstrek were up 21.6% and 29.9% respectively, with 6,527 Imprezas and 8,575 XV Crosstreks moved off dealer lots last month.
While Subaru only sold 3,716 WRX/STI models, it marked a whopping 85.3% increase over July of last year. Both the Legacy and the BRZ were down, 3.8% and 27.5% respectively.
Subaru has been dominating the social scene lately, particularly with its successful Subaru Impreza commercial, starring a dog, his bucket list, and Willie Nelson. Subaru’s charitable efforts have also entered the social conversation, including its tag team efforts with United By Blue and its pet crate testing with the Center for Pet Safety. Future sales are expected to continue to showcase Subaru’s upward movement.
