Four Ford GTs Accepted for Entry in 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours
Ford has a very clear, very simple goal: recreate history at Le Mans. The introduction of the Ford GT race car was the expected first step toward reclaiming glory at the world’s most famous endurance race, and having all four of its GT racers confirmed for the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours entry list is the most recent. All that’s left to do is win the whole damn thing.
The Automobile Club de l’Ouest confirmed Ford’s four-vehicle entry in Paris this week. The four Ford GTs will run with the numbers 66, 67, 68, and 69 at Le Mans, which takes place June 18-19. Ford has yet to announce driver lineups.
“I’m very happy that we can run all four Ford GTs at Le Mans,” said Chip Ganassi, owner of Ford Chip Ganassi Racing. “It will be a big challenge for us but one we are thrilled to undertake. We have prepared well and can’t wait to get the Ford GTs onto the track there and show everyone what they can do.”
Ford will be looking to recreate its historic 1-2-3 finish fifty years ago with a similar feat. We haven’t much longer to wait to see if it is possible.
