Is a sales turnaround coming soon for Genesis? The premium brand reported a 27.6 percent decrease in sales for September — but it’s hoping the upcoming introduction of two new models will provide a much-needed boost to finish the year.

For the month, Genesis moved 1,128 units, compared to 1,559 the previous September. Over the first nine months of the year, Genesis has sold 11,285 vehicles — down 24.3 percent from 2019.

“This year has been about meeting challenges head-on,” said Mark Del Rosso, the president and CEO of Genesis Motor North America. “It’s a great time for Genesis, our retailers, and our clients. Our all-new G80 mid-luxury sedan and first-ever GV80 SUV will see showrooms this fall. Our model line is gaining share in a down market, and our refreshed G70 and all-new GV70 SUV have made their initial digital debuts.”

Genesis sales leaders for September

September’s top-selling vehicle for Genesis was the G70 sport sedan. The G70 moved 899 units for the month, a 3.2 percent improvement over September 2019.

The G80 ended the month in second place, although it only ended up with 133 sales. This midsize sedan’s 70.1 percent decline can be partially attributed to the fact that 2020 models are slowly being phased out in anticipation of the 2021 version.

The G90 rounded out the September report with 96 units moved. That was down 60.3 percent from the flagship sedan’s sales a year before.

As Del Rosso noted, Genesis is eagerly awaiting the arrival of new models this fall and beyond. One in particular, the GV80 SUV, has the potential to give the premium brand a major sales boost. Thousands of these luxury models have already been reserved by potential buyers, signaling that better times for Genesis might not be far away.
