GM launches Maven car-sharing program

Today General Motors announced that Maven, the automaker’s personal mobility brand, has expanded to three more markets: Boston, Chicago, and Washington DC. Those cities now join Maven’s other two markets, New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Maven City car sharing program is now operating in Chicago, with registered customers able to reserve one of 30 vehicles at over 15 sites throughout the Windy City using the Maven app. Prices begin at $8 an hour, including insurance and fuel.

GM has partnered with ZIRX so that Maven City members can have the Chevrolet, Cadillac, or Buick vehicle that they reserve they reserve hand-delivered to them. Additionally, Maven+ residential on-demand car sharing is now available to residents of the Aqua luxury high-rise apartment community in Chicago’s Lakeshore East neighborhood.

Launched in March with Lyft, the Chicago Express Drive short-term rental program allows Lyft ride share service drivers in the Chicago area to rent Chevy Equinox vehicles for $99 a week. The program, which has grown to more than 200 cars in eight weeks, will expand to Boston, Baltimore, and DC by the end of the year.

In Washington DC, Maven+ car sharing will be available to residents of the Hepburn, a luxury apartment community opening next month in the city’s exclusive Kalorama neighborhood. Launching at the end of June, Maven City will be open to all qualifying DC residents.

Meanwhile, Maven+ and Maven City will be coming to Boston this summer.

“Whether it’s driving to land the perfect job, meeting friends for a fun weekend or exploring the city, Maven enables our members to access transportation how they want it, when they want it,” said GM and Maven executive Julia Steyn. “As we continue to expand into key cities, more customers will see how Maven can provide next-gen freedom by seamlessly connecting them with people and places that matter.”
