Mitsubishi at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show
Mitsubishi saved its big North American reveal for the Chicago Auto Show with the GC-PHEV Concept, but also brought along its entire lineup to display. If you can’t make it to the show this year, we’ve got pictures and a summary of each below:
GC-PHEV Concept
Mitsubishi kicked off the show by revealing the GC-PHEV Concept, a full-size plug-in hybrid electric SUV. Its edgy styling is supposedly a preview of future Mitsubishi design language, so we’ll see if that’s true when the smaller SUV concept is revealed at Geneva in a couple of weeks.
The GC-PHEV has a “Tactical Table” between the four seats that will allow passengers to link their smartphones and share information to plan road trips, find coffee shops, reserve parking at Whole Foods, and whatever else people that drive plug-in full size SUVs do.
There’s a ton of speculation over what this concept will end up being once it hits dealerships, but we’re thinking it could be the return of the Montero, or perhaps it’s just a design study to preview the next generation of Outlanders.
2015 Mitsubishi Lancer
The aging Lancer sedan also made an appearance at CAS 2015, including a 2015 Lancer Evolution. The EVO is in its last year in existence, at least in North America, for the time being.
The Lancer starts at $17,395 this year with seating for five and great fuel-efficiency at 26 city / 34 highway miles per gallon for the front-wheel drive models and 22/29 for the 4WD models.
2015 Mitsubishi Mirage
The little award-winning Mirage showed up in hot pink at the Chicago Auto Show. It was recently named on the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s “Greenest Vehicles” list and was recognized by the IHS Automotive Loyalty Awards in the subcompact class. The Mirage holds the title as the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car in the US at 44 highway miles per gallon.
2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Mitsubishi’s best-seller, the 2015 Outlander Sport, gets a new, bigger engine this year. The 2.4 ES and 2.4 GT trim levels will offer 20 horsepower over the standard 2.0-liter engine for even more capability.
2015 Mitsubishi Outlander
The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with Forward Collision Mitigation, and Mitsubishi boasted about this somewhat humorously during Super Bowl XLIX, where they gave a Boston pizza delivery driver one for the day to “Protect the Pie”, and thus no pizza pies were harmed on Super Bowl Sunday.
The base model starts at $23,195 this year and uses a 2.4-liter MIVEC four-cylinder engine. Opt for the Outlander GT trim level to get the 3.0-liter V6 and Super All-Wheel Control.
