Buick Encore revealed in China

Chinese Buick customers this weekend were introduced to the new Encore SUV. The updated Encore was revealed on June 18th at a public event, where it was announced that the vehicle will be offered in five different trims priced between RMB 139,900 and RMB 189,900.

The most noticeable change made to the 2017 Encore at the onset is the adaptation of the brand’s new face, including the return of a red/white/blue tri-shield emblem, a new winged chrome grille flanked by wing-shaped LED headlights and double-wing-shaped daytime running lamps, and wing-shaped LED taillights in the rear.

On the inside, the Encore pulls in new materials likely to appeal to more affluent customers, including maple-leaf red premium Alcantara suede. The Encore gets an updated center console with the next-generation seven-inch touchscreen display, which grants access to the latest iteration of IntelliLink infotainment and both its voice-controlled navigation system and compatibility with Baidu CarLife.

The Encore’s interior features a 360-degree wraparound layout that is considerably quieter than competing utility vehicles thanks to QuietTuning technology. Available technologies include keyless entry, push-button start, and an anti-dazzle rearview mirror.

The Encore is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that will be the standard across the lineup, and it can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSS intelligent transmission. All Encore models will come standard with stop/start technology.

Buick also announced at the event that the 2017 Encore will join the brand’s other SUVs—the Enclave and Envision—on the 2016 Route Awakening Buick China Culture Tour. The event is sponsored by both Buick and the National Geographic Channel, and it is among the longest culture tours in the country. The experience will be documented for an upcoming series.
