The Buick Verano sedan is no longer sold in the U.S., but it’s quite popular in China — and a completely redesigned version was recently introduced there.

The all-new Verano is one of eight new or refreshed vehicles that Buick is debuting in its biggest market this year, with more than 20 to arrive by 2023.

“With the latest styling, a new powertrain, and a broad range of advanced safety and connectivity technologies, the all-new Verano will appeal to a new generation of younger car buyers,” said Molly Peck, SAIC-GM’s Buick executive director.

Under the hood, the Buick Verano offers a pair of efficient powertrain options. Connected to a new continuously variable transmission, the Ecotec 1.3-liter direct-injected turbo puts out 162 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque while achieving about 42 mpg. The Ecotec 1.0-liter turbo comes with a six-speed dynamic start/stop shift transmission, makes 123 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, and gets about 45 mpg.

The Verano’s exterior design features a stereoscopic double wing-shaped grille, chrome dual exhaust, and six paint color choices. On the inside, the Verano offers a three-spoke sport steering wheel and double-barrel dash, along with 23 storage spaces and up to 40 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded down.

Infotainment highlights for the Verano include a standard 8-inch high-definition touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife smartphone pairing, and over-the-air software updates. The Verano also offers a suite of safety technologies like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision alert, collision mitigation braking, and automatic park assist.
