Nissan Texas Truck Rodeo Awards

Nissan came away with six awards at this year’s Texas Truck Rodeo

Texas has found a brand-new love—and it looks like it’s the Nissan car brand. During the Texas Auto Writer Association’s (TAWA) Texas truck Rodeo, Nissan managed to wrangle a total of six awards, which was the most of any brand. The majority of Nissan’s SUV, crossover, and pickup truck lineup walked away with some honor or another, making the event a huge win for the brand overall.

The all-new 2017 Nissan Armada walked away with the “SUV of Texas” and “Full-Size SUV of Texas” titles. With a new exterior design, better performance with a brand-new 5.6-liter V8 engine, and a new seven-speed automatic transmission, it really comes as no surprise that this large SUV came out on top compared to the competition.

Along with the Armada, the Nissan Murano was also honored with the title of “Mid-size Crossover of Texas” for the second year in a row. This new title is added to the model’s “Activity Vehicle of Texas” title it earned last spring, helping it inch closer to becoming one of Nissan’s most awarded vehicles in the brand’s history.

Finally, the Titan pickup truck rounded out the awards with an astonishing run in the rodeo. Three versions of the 2017 Titan earned awards. The new Titan Texas Edition SL Crew Cab came out on top in the “Full-size Truck of Texas” category, while the Titan XD Single Cab Diesel earned the title of “Commercial Vehicle of Texas. Finally, the Titan XD Single Cab earned the title of “Best Value.”

This year, the event was held at the 1,632-acre Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. To earn these awards, each competing vehicle was put through a gauntlet of grueling on- and off-road evaluations.
