The announcement comes just days after the Vision BMW Alpina concept drew attention at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. While the dramatic four-seat coupe served as a showcase for the future direction of the brand, BMW described it as a “one-of-one design study,” leaving the upcoming production sedan as the company’s immediate priority.
BMW’s plans mark the beginning of a new chapter for Alpina after the automaker took control of the brand name. The production model will remain “unmistakably BMW Alpina,” even if it shares its foundation with the facelifted 7 Series already sold by BMW.
The upcoming sedan will occupy a space between traditional BMW luxury sedans and the more exclusive offerings from Rolls-Royce. The model could slot somewhere between a highly equipped 7 Series and a base Rolls-Royce Ghost within the broader BMW Group hierarchy.
The Vision BMW Alpina Hints at the Sedan’s Design Direction
Although BMW has not confirmed how closely the production car will resemble the Vision BMW Alpina concept, several design cues appear likely to carry over. The concept adopted what was described as the dashboard layout of the future 2027 7 Series, including a passenger display integrated into the cabin.
The dimensions of the concept also attracted attention. Measuring 5200 millimeters, or nearly 205 inches long, the coupe featured proportions comparable to a large luxury sedan. According to Motor1, the concept could “easily pass as a 7 Series Coupe.”
BMW has yet to reveal official styling details for the production model. Still, the company suggested that elements introduced by the concept may influence the final sedan. The oversized kidney grilles shown on the Vision BMW Alpina represented a noticeable departure from the more discreet styling traditionally associated with older Alpina models such as the B7.

A V8 Engine With More Than 500 Horsepower Is Expected
The new Alpina sedan will arrive with a V8 engine at a time when the refreshed BMW 7 Series lineup currently lacks an eight-cylinder option. BMW has already confirmed that an M Performance variant powered by a V8 will join the range in 2027.
Industry insiders expect that model to be called the M760. The Alpina version is expected to remain closely related while retaining the brand’s tradition of unique engine tuning.
Previous Alpina vehicles developed before BMW’s takeover featured specially calibrated engines and distinct exhaust characteristics. The Vision BMW Alpina concept previewed that approach with what BMW described as a “V8 powertrain tuned to produce the characteristic notes of the Alpina exhaust: rich and deep at low speed, sonorous at high revs.”
Power figures have not been officially announced. Output is expected to exceed the 536 horsepower produced by the turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 used in the previous BMW 760i.

Comfort Will Take Priority Over Outright Performance
BMW indicated that the future Alpina sedan will emphasize ride comfort rather than outright performance. That role inside the 7 Series lineup is expected to belong to the future M760 model.
The Vision BMW Alpina concept introduced a dedicated Comfort+ setting designed to deliver what BMW described as “a more supple, refined character.” The mode is intended to go beyond the standard comfort calibration already available in regular BMW luxury sedans.

BMW has not yet detailed how the production Alpina will distinguish itself from the standard 7 Series beyond suspension tuning, design elements, and engine calibration. Earlier Alpina models traditionally focused on understated luxury and discreet styling, appealing to buyers seeking a more reserved alternative within the high-end sedan market.
For now, the Vision BMW Alpina remains a standalone concept, while the V8-powered Alpina 7 Series is expected to become the first production model of the brand’s new BMW-controlled era.
