Compatibility
Not all Lexus models are compatible with the update. Your vehicle probably qualifies if it’s one of the following models:
There are a few exceptions to this list. If you drive a 2019 ES Sedan that’s equipped with navigation capabilities, you’ve already got the updates. If you’ve got a 2019 model year vehicle, it needs to have been built before October 2018 to be eligible for an upgrade. However, Lexus claims some October 2018 and November 2018 builds are compatible. It’s a bit messy — the automaker recommends contacting a Lexus dealer to check your car’s compatibility.
The upgrade will cost $199. However, you don’t need to rush in — Lexus says the offer never expires, and eligible vehicles will always be able to receive the update.
Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa functionality
Apple CarPlay lets you connect your iPhone to your car’s infotainment system. From there, you can make and receive hands-free calls, dictate text messages, have the system read messages to you, and access your favorite navigation and entertainment apps.
With Amazon Alexa, you can control your smart home devices right from your dashboard. That way, you can set the thermostat before you arrive home, add items to your shopping list, or even order things straight from Amazon. As your virtual co-pilot, Alexa can adjust your vehicle’s infotainment settings, give you real-time traffic information, and read out your local weather forecast. Plus, if you’re traveling, Alexa can suggest restaurants, nearby points of interest, and congestion-free routes.
