VIN 001 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 Fetches $1.1M at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale
Ford fetched a high price for the VIN 001 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, pulling in $1.1 million for JDRF and its fight to end juvenile diabetes. Perhaps even more notable than the seven-figure sum for the first 2020 Shelby GT500 is the winning bidder: Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson.
You can’t blame Jackson for dipping into his own proverbial cookie jar: Not only does he know that his cool million and change is going to a great cause, but he knows that he’s getting the first 700-plus-horsepower GT500 to roll off the line. That’s just the kind of opportunity you wouldn’t pass up. Plus, he gets his pick of color. Score!

“Over the last decade Barrett-Jackson, Ford and Shelby have teamed up to create some incredible moments in automotive history,” said Jackson. “As a lifelong Shelby Mustang fan, it was especially exciting to be the winning bidder of the 2020 Shelby GT500 VIN 001. It’s a direct descendant of the Green Hornet and Little Red Mustangs and will be a welcome addition to my personal Shelby collection. And while it’s an honor to be the owner of this very special Mustang, it’s more rewarding to know that Carolyn and I could contribute to JDRF’s noble fight against type 1 juvenile diabetes.”
Lot No. 3008 was brought to the auction block by none other than Edsel B. Ford II and Aaron Shelby, the grandson of Carroll Shelby. Ford II and Carroll Shelby were on hand in 2006 to offer up the VIN 001 2007 Mustang Shelby GT500 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, making the moment all the more significant.
Ford has been helping JDRF and its mission for 35 years, donating a total of $70 million over the course of the partnership. Today, Ford donates about $3.5 million to JDRF annually, including proceeds raised from vehicle auctions.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be the fastest and most powerful street-legal Mustang ever built. It’s expected to deliver 700+ horsepower, a mid-three-second 0-60 mph time, and a sub-11-second quarter-mile.
