We can pretty well tell at this point that the 2020 Ford Explorer is going to be one of the most versatile vehicles on the road, never mind in its class. Not only do the 2020 Ford Explorer ST and Explorer Hybrid change the game by offering the most powerful and likely most efficient Explorers ever made, respectively, but the availability of nearly two dozen Yakima accessories across the range ensures that it remains the go-to for off-road adventuring.

“Explorer drivers are doers, they’re adventure-seekers,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV brand manager. “The availability of Yakima accessories in our Ford showrooms is one more way we can help people own the Explorer that best fits their adventure.”

Following in the stead of the 2019 Ford Ranger, which was revealed to have its own range of Yakima accessories late last year, the 2020 Ford Explorer gets accessories and options that range from a single-key system for easier unlocking of equipment to canoe carrier mounts for most Explorer roof racks.

Highlights of the Yakima 2020 Ford Explorer catalog include hitch-mounted swinging bike racks that can accommodate up to four bikes, kayak carriers with integrated boat ramps, kayak carrier load assists that help assist with up to 45 percent of a kayak’s weight, rack-mounted snow-sport carriers that can fit up to six sets of skis or four snowboards, a cargo box that adds 16 cubic feet of storage space, weather-resistant roof-mounted baskets, and a 6.5-foot by 6.5-foot awning that’s perfect for shade from the sun or rain.

The 2020 Ford Explorer is expected to arrive this summer and will be the most capable vehicle of its kind. An available twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost will make the next-gen Explorer the most powerful ever built, generating 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque (or 400 horsepower for the higher-output Explorer ST) and enabling max towing of up to 5,600 pounds.
