Ford is Taking the Jeep of Faith

1966 Ford Bronco

The exterior body of the new Bronco will take inspiration from its 1965 model

Yesterday, we reported a Ford dealer meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, last month that involved a two-door Bronco prototype.

Information continues to circulate from that meeting, and now we are learning more about what we can expect from the new Ford Bronco.

Why Another SUV?: Because SUV sales are booming

One big detail is its detachable doors and roof. While the Jeep Wrangler and other off-roaders have included this feature for years, the Bronco will go one step further. Its side mirrors that fasten to the A-pillars remains in place after the Ford SUV loses the doors.

Besides this feature, we know that the Bronco will wear its name on its grille, similarly to the Ford logo on its other Ford models. On this back, it will carry a spare tire.

The outward look of the new Bronco will take you back to 1965, as it will feature a rectangular grille, round headlights, and an overall boxy appearance.

Its two- and four-door models will offer rear- and four-wheel drive. Rumor has it that at the top of its engine selection will be a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which generates 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. It will likely utilize a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder option as well.

While we expect an automatic transmission, there is hope for a seven-speed manual for those who desire optimal control.

Ford plans to produce the Bronco along with the Ranger pickup truck inside its Michigan Assembly Plant.
