For its third generation, the 2021 Genesis G80 has received an extensive overhaul focused on integrating eye-pleasing style and upscale features with advanced technologies and a dynamic driving experience.

“The core of our brand lies within the G80,” said William Lee, the executive vice president and global head of the Genesis brand. “This segment represents where we started and we’re pleased that our newest offering achieves a perfect balance of discerning luxury and inspiring performance for our customers.”

2021 Genesis G80 design features

The 2021 G80 is designed to communicate both power and sophistication. Based on the upcoming GV80 crossover, the overall exterior outline is characterized by sweeping lines and a strikingly tapered rear. The front features an enormous crest grille and quad-lamp headlights. Along the sides, a parabolic line and a chrome trim strip communicate horizontal motion.

Inside, the G80’s cabin presents a spacious, minimalist feel. A 14.5-inch infotainment screen is set atop the dashboard, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen sits behind the steering wheel, and a head-up display projects on the windshield. The G80 boasts increased headroom and legroom throughout, along with leather seats, wood trim, and soft-touch surfaces.

Performance details

The 2021 G80 offers three responsive powertrain options: a 304-horsepower 2.5-liter inline-four, a 380-horsepower turbo V6, and a 210-horsepower 2.2-liter diesel inline-four. It’s not yet clear whether all of these powertrains will be offered in the United States.

To frame and channel its power, the G80 also features a lightweight new all-wheel-drive platform with a lowered center of gravity for more assured handling. Engineering that prioritizes sound reduction ensures a quiet ride. There’s also an Electronically Controlled Suspension with Road Preview, which uses a camera to help spot and smooth out bumps in the road.

Safety and convenience tech

The G80 is loaded with cutting-edge technologies to enhance safety and convenience. Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning uses artificial intelligence to learn a driver’s habits. Highway Driving Assist II helps to execute lane changes and respond to sudden maneuvers by other drivers. Pre-Active Safety Seats automatically adjust their positioning to protect passengers during a crash. The Remote Smart Parking Assistant allows drivers to maneuver into narrow spaces with ease.

For comfort and convenience, the driver’s seat is designed with air cells that automatically adjust to match driving modes and make long trips less fatiguing. The infotainment system comes with a touchpad controller, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air update capabilities. The premium Lexicon speaker system ensures crisp, clear sound. Rear-seat passengers can independently adjust HVAC settings and enjoy infotainment on two touch screens.
