Dodge could be discontinuing the Hellcat lineup after 2019
When Dodge first introduced the SRT Hellcat powertrains, power-hungry car lovers around the world rejoiced. With a factory-made 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine, the Hellcats were just what the American carmaker needed to bring more consumers to the brand. Now, though, it looks like all HEMIs in SRT models will be gone from the Dodge lineup by 2019.

Sources claim that Dodge’s current plan is to end HEMI production in 2019. While these are just rumors right now, the possibility of Dodge axing its HEMI lineup is quite high. CAFE requirements are coming that will make V8 engines extremely uncommon for carmakers, especially if the carmakers are like Dodge and don’t have a large electric-car credit to apply against them.

The dissolving of the HEMI lineup will mean Dodge is taking away its 6.4-liter V8 and supercharged 6.2-liter engines. In place of these powertrains, it’s reported that, depending on the vehicle, Dodge will offer either a twin-turbo four or a twin-turbo six-cylinder.
If the end of the Hellcat and HEMI lineup is in the near future, then it’s likely the demand for Hellcat models will continue to rise. And who knows—maybe they’ll become collector’s items?
