Hamilton vs Alonso at the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix
Formula 1 has announced it will livestream every session of the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix on the popular Twitch website and app, which is typically used to stream video games.
This is the first time that F1 will stream on-track action from a Grand Prix weekend on the Twitch platform, and it will be free for anyone tuning in, though this does come with a caveat: the stream will only be available in Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland.
If you don’t live in any of those countries, then you’ll need to catch the race as usual, either via TV broadcast or the official F1 TV website and app. If you do live in those countries, however, you’ll also be treated to what F1 calls “interactivity and gaming elements,” such as a data extension that will allow users to predict the performance of drivers during 10-minute segments.

“The predictions will then be ranked and displayed according to their accuracy, providing an interactive gaming element to the broadcast,” Formula 1 said, though it’s unclear if this will be the only “interactivity and gaming element” featured or if there will be more.
F1 also says that each session will be co-streamed by prominent personalities from each relevant region, such as Germany’s PietSmiet, who has nearly 100,000 followers on the platform. “As Formula 1 fans, the co-stream is something very special for Team PietSmiet,” the German streamer said. “We are looking forward to experiencing the race weekend live with the community.”
The 2019 Mexican GP may well decide the winner of this year’s championship, so even if you can’t catch it live on Twitch, it should be a good race to watch.
