Ford Remains Top Brand in the UK Through Q1 2019
With the first three months of 2019 down, Ford Motor Company remains the No. 1 brand in the United Kingdom, setting up a path for the Blue Oval to achieve its 43rd consecutive year as the UK’s top passenger car brand and 54th year as its top commercial vehicle brand.
“Ford had a good start to the year, especially in higher value market segments, such as retail sales and commercial vehicle sales,” said Ford of Britain Managing Director Andy Barratt. “New models, such as the Fiesta and Focus Active, are gaining strong traction with our customers. Despite the economic uncertainty in large part caused by Brexit, we continue to expect a strong sales year for Ford in the UK.”

Among the highlights for Ford in the first quarter of 2019 was its best-ever month for commercial vehicle sales, which occurred in March. Last month, more than 24,000 Ford commercial vehicles were registered by drivers in the UK. This is consistent with the position of the Fiesta van, Transit Courier, Transit Custom, Tourneo Custom, and Transit as the top vehicles in their respective segments. Adding to this was the continued success of the Ford Ranger, which led its segment with a total of 4,735 registrations.
Ford remained atop the passenger vehicle retail segment with an 11.3 percent market share, helped along in large part by the new Fiesta. The Fiesta is once again the top-selling vehicle in the UK at 23,831 registered, and 13 percent of all sales in March belonged to the newly launched Fiesta Active crossover. What’s more, 76 percent of all passenger vehicle sales come from high-series variants like the Titanium, Vignale, ST-Line, ST, and RS, providing Ford of Britain a boost in profitability.
