The all-new Ford Ranger Raptor, which is lamentably not available in the United States (at least not for another generation, perhaps), took home the title of 4×4 of the Year in the Australian Motoring Awards in January. The Ranger Raptor just eked out the win over one of its kin: the Ranger XLT Bi-Turbo, which took second place.

The new Ranger Raptor, which made its debut just a year ago, is powered by a 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel and 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering 210 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This was enough to fend off the Ranger XLT Bi-Turbo as well as competition like the HSV Colorado SportsCat and Volkswagen Amarok V6 Core, earning Ford its second 4×4 of the Year award. The Ford Everest was the last to take home the title in 2015.

“On any back road — the rougher the better — or any 4×4 track, it works brilliantly and helps to make the Raptor an enormously fun-to-drive, competent, and capable recreational 4×4 dual-cab,” reported 4×4 Australia in its Feb. 2019 issue.

The Ranger Raptor also became the first double cab pickup to make the finals of the WhichCar Style awards.

The Ford Ranger Raptor features BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, Fox Racing Shox, and Ford’s innovative Terrain Management System, making it a sure-fire off-road performer. The Ranger Raptor is available in Australia, Europe, and Asia, and its successor is likely to make the leap to the United States when it arrives within the next few years.
