Four Fords Win KBB 5-Year Cost to Own Awards
It was announced today that four Ford vehicles have been named award winners in Kelley Blue Book’s 2016 5-Year Cost to Own Awards. The Ford Focus ST, F-150, Explorer, and Mustang GT each won top honors in their respective categories for a combination of lower depreciation, insurance costs, fuel costs, maintenance costs, and KBB Fair Purchase Price, as well as higher residual value.
The Focus ST won the Sporty Compact Car category thanks to lower depreciation and insurance. The 2016 Focus ST was found to have a 5-Year Cost to Own price tag of $34,077, making it more than $2,000 more affordable than the runner up.
The same price differential separated the 2016 Ford Mustang GT from its closest competitor in the High Performance Car category. The Mustang GT carries an estimated five-year cost of $45,267, making it more than $2,000 more affordable than the Camaro SS and more than $7,000 more affordable than the Challenger R/T Scat Pack.
Similarly, the 2016 Ford Explorer won the Best Full-Size SUV/Crossover category by a margin of more than $2,500. The new Explorer’s lower maintenance and fuel costs gave it a 5-Year Cost to Own price of $47,108, topping the Chevy Traverse and the GMC Acadia.
The price differential was closer in the Best Full-Size Pickup Truck category, but the 2016 F-150 Regular Cab took the win thanks to its exceptional fuel capabilities and lower cost to insure. The F-150 was also named the KBB Truck Best Buy last November.
