General Motors Korea announced on Tuesday a record 180,275 vehicles sold domestically in 2016, effectively crushing the previous record of 158,404 vehicles set in 2015. GM Korea finished up 2016 with domestic sales totaling 18,313 units, achieving the best mark for the month of December in company history as well as the automaker’s best month for the entire year.

“Last year was GM Korea’s best year in the domestic market since our company’s establishment in 2002. Our Chevrolet lineup, including the Spark, Malibu, Trax, Camaro, and Volt extended-range electric vehicle, performed well,” said Dale Sullivan, GM Korea vice president of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.

“We thank our customers for their support. GM Korea looks forward to another strong year in 2017 as we continue rolling out new models, carrying out aggressive marketing promotions, and providing unmatched customer service.”

Sales of GM Korea’s key additions—the all-new Malibu, Trax, Camaro SS, and Spark—were all leading factors in its success in 2016. Sales of the Malibu were up 244.7% domestically-speaking in December at 4,154 units delivered; sales of the Spark were up 2.9% at 7,078 units delivered; sales of the Trax grew 43.5% at 2,603 units, good for the Trax’s best single-month performance since its launch in February 2013; and sales of the Camaro SS reached the thoroughly metal 666-unit sales mark after another strong month in December.

GM Korea’s export sales totaled 35,968 vehicles in December. Full-year sales totaled 597,165 units, where 180,275 vehicles were sold domestically and 416,890 were exported.
