GM Recognizes Top Suppliers with Annual Awards Ceremony

General Motors held its 24th annual Supplier of the Year awards at the Cobo Center in Detroit last night. The automaker recognized 110 of its best global suppliers, the most ever recognized since the Supplier of the Year event began in 1992.
GM awarded 79 suppliers in 2014, so this year’s 110 recipients of the award represent roughly a 40% increase in the number of suppliers recognized. Automotive suppliers from 17 different countries were presented with the coveted Supplier of the Year award, more than half of whom were repeat winners from 2014. Inaugural winners include Delphi Automotive, Delta Electronics, Gentex Corporation, FANUC Corporation, and Autoneum Holding AG.
Autoneum was recognized for providing new lightweight acoustic material that reduced the mass of the 2016 GMC Acadia by 20%, while Delphi earned an award for providing industry-first vehicle-to-vehicle wireless communication tech to provide the 2017 Cadillac CTS with 360-degree object detection. Delta Electronics supplied the 2016 Chevy Volt with an on-board charger module, FANUC developed an assembly plant paint robot application, and Gentex provided the 2016 Cadillac CT6 with an industry-first rear camera mirror.
GM also honored LGE/LG Chem., Brake Parts Incorporated, and repeat winner Lear with its Overdrive Award, which recognizes supply partners “for extraordinary leadership in cultural change and commitment initiatives that drove exceptional business results for GM.”
“Our priorities are focused on building positive supplier relationships, bringing new, customer-centric innovations to GM, and being the OEM of choice among suppliers,” said Steve Kiefer, vice president of GM’s Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “The companies we recognize tonight not only have brought innovation, they delivered it with the quality our customers deserve.”
