The 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross recently underwent IIHS testing and evaluations to determine the SUV’s safety. Thanks to its great performance and technology, the crossover earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick.

An Impressive Lineup: Mitsubishi wins ASG awards

Details on the IIHS accolade

Before giving out the award, the IIHS puts vehicles through six different crash tests. The newest test is the small overlap front: passenger-side test, which examines how well vehicles protect front passengers. Other tests consist of the moderate overlap front, side, head restraints and seats, roof strength, and small overlap front: driver-side. For every single test, the 2019 Eclipse Cross was rated Good, which is the best rating possible.

As for the evaluations, the IIHS reviewed the features included on the Eclipse Cross Touring package. Specifically, the IIHS looked at the crash-avoidance technology as well as the LED headlights, only a part of the Touring package on the SEL trim. The headlights received an Acceptable rating.

Better yet, the available Forward Collision Mitigation System achieved Superior status for its front crash prevention. The 2019 Eclipse Cross was also evaluated on its LATCH system when IIHS tested the child seat anchors. The LATCH system, which allows you to attach a child seat to a car seat, was considered Good for its ease of use.

With so many safety features available, it should come as no surprise that the 2019 Eclipse Cross is not the first Mitsubishi vehicle to be a Top Safety Pick in the 2019 model year. The 2019 Outlander also received this prestigious IIHS award.
