Those watching the 91st Academy Awards ceremony caught the 2019 Cadillac SUVs Rise Above ad. The 60-second commercial promoted the lineup of the XT4, XT5, Escalade and upcoming XT6.

The advertisement encompasses a lot of imagery that supports its theme of growing through challenging circumstances and experiencing new things. It also enables women to break away from tradition and create their own life.

Individuals walk up stairs, ride elevators, an actor wins an award, a boxer gets back up to throw some punches and a child climbs a jungle gym. In between these clips, we the powerful Cadillac SUVs revving its engine toward redline.

Donald Glover provides musical accompaniment through his famed-rapper alter ego, Childish Gambino. The title song, “Me and Your Momma,” is off his third album “Awaken, My Love.”

This one-minute spot is only the beginning of its inspirational message, as Cadillac started a campaign on social media with the hashtag #KeepRising. The campaign features stories of pop culture icons sharing when they took the initiative to break down barriers and overcome adversity.

Besides selling luxury SUVs, Cadillac wants it audience to stand its ground and not give into society’s norms. “May the road rise up to meet you,” says the narrator. “May the wind be at your back. Rise above in the uncompromising Cadillac SUVs.”
