Luxury Jeep SUV Will Rival Range Rover
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) CEO Sergio Marchionne says a lot of different things. One of those things was recently about the Range Rover while he was attending the opening of an Alfa Romeo/Maserati dealership last week.
“When I see a Range Rover on the street,” he said, “my blood boils, because we should be able to do a thing like that. And we will.”
And the “thing like that” that FCA intends to produce is a luxury Jeep SUV. It’s about time, boys and girls.
Jeep has been producing vehicles since World War II, but the brand has not yet ventured into the luxury market. Jeep has such a cult following, however, that they’ll drive just about anything you slap a Jeep badge onto—and hopefully that includes luxury utility vehicles.
Bloomberg believes that a Jeep of this caliber could fetch as much as $100,000. Compare that to the Grand Cherokee, Jeep’s most expensive model currently, which starts at around $30,000 (though it can climb to around $60,000 if you get carried away). The Grand Wagoneer is due for 2018, but a luxury Jeep SUV meant to compete with a Range Rover would sit even higher than that.
As for any details regarding this mysterious SUV, Marchionne was a little tight-lipped: “Would I tell you that? No, but we’re working on it now.”
