Mitsubishi Achieves Its Best January Sales Since 2007
The Eclipse Cross and Mirage helped Mitsubishi achieve a 2.7 percent sales increase last month
Whereas other automakers struggled during 2018, Mitsubishi actually experienced something of a resurgence. By the end of the year, Mitsubishi sold 118,074 vehicles, its best sales year since 2007.
Mitsubishi’s sales renaissance continued last month, as the brand sold a total of 8,708 vehicles.
Setting Sales Records: Mitsubishi’s August sales best in 10 years
During January of 2018, Mitsubishi sold a total of 8,480 vehicles. As such, sales for the Mitsubishi brand were up by 2.7 percent. Last month also represented Mitsubishi’s best January sales since 2007.
Mitsubishi reports that the vast majority of this sales boost came from its crossovers and SUVs. Sales for this segment were up by 6.6 percent year over year.
Significant Sales Increases: Mitsubishi June sales jump 46 percent
The introduction of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross last year surely helped with that. Mitsubishi sold 1,563 Eclipse Cross models last month.
Unfortunately, it would seem that the Eclipse Cross is stealing sales away from Mitsubishi’s other crossovers and SUVs. Mitsubishi’s signature SUV, the Outlander, experienced a 22.3 percent sales decline last month.
The sales decline for the Outlander Sport was somewhat less drastic at 8.3 percent. Still, it does demonstrate how shoppers are foregoing an Outlander purchase in favor of the Eclipse Cross.
Still, it wasn’t just Mitsubishi’s SUVs that saw sales increases. The Mitsubishi Mirage also gained sales.
Last month, Mitsubishi managed to sell 1,570 Mirage models. Compared to the 1,103 Mirage vehicles it sold the prior year, this accounts for a massive sales increase of 42.3 percent.
Had it not been for the U.S. Government shutdown and a polar vortex that affected a large portion of the country, Mitsubishi’s sales may have been even more impressive. We’ll just have to wait until February to see if that is indeed the case.
