Right now in the United States, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the highest-selling Mitsubishi model, due to its blending of convenience and performance. Meanwhile in Europe, another Outlander model is topping the sales chart.

Mitsubishi’s highest-selling model in Europe at the moment is the Outlander PHEV.

An Outstanding Reception: New Outlander PHEV named Green SUV of the Year

Europeans currently have more of a taste for EVs and hybrids than most American drivers do. As such, it should come as no surprise that Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid model is topping the sales charts.

However, the Outlander PHEV isn’t just the best-selling Mitsubishi model in Europe. It also happens to be Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid model, a title that it has held for the past four years.

“The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is our brand flagship, our best seller in Europe, a trend-setter that the industry is watching carefully and a pointer to MMC’s long term strategy, blending adventurous SUV heritage with progressive electrified technologies,” explained Bernard Loire, the president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

Learn More About the Outlander PHEV: Four great things about the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a 2.0-liter MIVEC DOHC four-cylinder engine and 60kW Twin AC synchronous permanent magnetic motors. Working in tandem, these two powertrain components generate a net total of 197 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. All the while, the Outlander PHEV is able to achieve a combined fuel economy of 74 MPGe.

Mitsubishi’s future plans involve more entries for the plug-in hybrid and EV segments. As European sales show, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a good model to start that trend out with.
