Going out camping with the family is one of the relatively safe pleasures you can still enjoy in the ongoing, unrelenting nightmare that is our reality. If you live in Europe, you’re probably familiar with the comfy-cozy Ford Transit Nugget Plus camper van, which is now better equipped for pulling you out of your maddening daily thanks to a new tilt roof option. (If you’re American, you can’t get the Nugget Plus, but you can at least enjoy the relatively silly name.)

Getting out there and away from it all is now even better in the new Transit Nugget Plus. Ford equips its beloved camper van with a new tilt roof option, expanding the Nugget range to four models. The Transit Nugget Plus is also available with a fixed roof option, and the smaller Transit Nugget offers fixed-roof and tilt-roof options.

“From weekend getaways to staycation holidays with the whole family, we’re seeing growing demand for the adventure and freedom that campers provide,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “Nugget Plus’s new tilt roof lets customers enjoy light-filled, spacious living when parked up, then lower the roof to drive away without worrying about height restrictions, even reducing fuel costs en route through improved efficiency.”

Ford couldn’t time the launch of the tilt-roof Transit Nugget Plus more perfectly. Germany’s Caravanning Industry Association says that camper sales are growing twofold across Europe due in no small part to COVID-19 and social distancing. Ford made its Nugget range available in select European markets early last year, and it expects that sales in 2020 will triple sales from 2018.

Based on the Transit Custom, the Nugget offers all the amenities you’d need in a camper van. Its spacious L-shaped layout includes a kitchenette and convertible dining area that accommodates up to three passengers when the vehicle is in motion. The larger Nugget Plus adds in a built-in toilet with privacy screen as well as two on-board water tanks.

The tilt roof option makes for easier storage and passage under low overpasses and through forested areas. Manually expanding the roof is easy, increasing headroom by 7.9 feet and offering additional sleeping accommodations with a double bed. It can also help save on fuel and toll costs.

Orders for the tilt-roof Transit Nugget Plus open in November with initial deliveries expected to take place in the first quarter of next year. Get ready to get your Nugget on!
