Precision Blendz was named the winner this week in the Ford Motor Company Men of Courage Cincinnati Barbershop Challenge. Precision Blendz went viral shortly after it was announced as a finalist in August when a false police report led to a moment of understanding and a dialogue about what it means to be human.

As the grand prize winner of the Men of Courage Cincinnati Barbershop Challenge, Precision Blendz owners Tommy Mays and Michael Thomas Jr. take home $10,000 in grants to revitalize the barbershop and improve client experiences. Second-place winner Razor 1 Kutz earns a $5,000 donation to a nonprofit of their choice; owner Donald Hudson says the money will go to the Omega Mentoring Youth program, which works with at-risk kids aged 4-12.

Both Precision Blendz and Razor 1 Kutz were tasked with demonstrating their shared commitment to the Cincinnati community. The former won by virtue of taking initiative with respect to having conversations about suicide prevention, reaching out the Cincinnati police to talk about public safety issues, and holding health screenings and sessions aimed at helping people learn financial literacy skills.

“We commend Precision Blendz for emerging as the first place winner in a very competitive program,” remarked Pamela Alexander, director of Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Each of the barbershops in the challenge developed innovative community events and partnerships that will make a positive impact on the Cincinnati community for years to come.”

With the success of the Men of Courage Cincinnati Barbershop Challenge, Ford has announced the finalists for a new challenge based in Tacoma, Washington. Finalists Goodfellas253 and Legends Barbershop will have three months to hold six community events aimed at fostering positivity, and the Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. exhibition will move from the Cincinnati Underground Railroad Freedom Center to the Washington State History Museum.
