In recent years, General Motors has begun a gradual expansion into new global markets. This growth has seen brands like Chevrolet arrive in various countries in the Middle East, South America, and Asia. The biggest market is currently China, but other countries and regions may be catching up soon. One is North Africa, and their latest GM arrival is the 2020 Chevrolet Captiva, which just launched in Egypt.

The launch of the 2020 Chevrolet Captiva

The launch of the 2020 Chevrolet Captiva in Egypt comes after General Motors first revealed it to the country via a Zoom web conference stream. This is the first time an automaker has showcased a new vehicle with this method, and it was a move made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new Captiva will be sold in Egypt by local GM importer and distributor Al Mansour Automotive, which has had a strong working relationship with GM for nearly half a century. Tarek Atta, Chairman and Managing Director of GM Egypt and North Africa, said in a recent statement that the Captiva “will strongly compete and reinforce the brand presence in the Egyptian market,” and that the new vehicle will “meet our customers’ expectations at an affordable price.”

Egypt’s version of the 2020 Chevrolet Captiva will be available at three trim levels: the LS, LT, and Premier. Al Mansour Automotive has stated that the next 18 months will see the vehicle hit new showrooms across the country. These include dealerships in Abu Rawash, Al Amereya, and Tanta. No price for Egypt’s new 2020 Captiva has yet been announced.

The 2020 Chevrolet Captiva was developed in China by SAIC-GM-Wuling, GM’s Chinese joint-venture. The same vehicle launched in the country only recently, and is marked there as the Baojun 530. There are currently no known major differences between the trim levels on the Chinese and Egyptian versions.
