The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 arrives as part of a broader refresh of General Motors’ full-size pickup range, following the introduction of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The model introduces notable changes across design, powertrain options, and interior layout, marking a significant update for one of GMC’s core vehicles.

The Sierra 1500 is positioned to continue competing in the highly contested full-size truck segment, where manufacturers are increasingly focusing on both capability and onboard technology. The update reflects a mix of new engine offerings and a heavily revised cabin experience.

New Powertrain Lineup with Expanded V8 Options

The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 will offer General Motors’ new small block engines, including two V8 options that have not yet been fully detailed. The lineup includes a 5.7-liter V8 and a 6.6-liter V8, alongside existing engines such as the TurboMax four-cylinder and the Duramax diesel V6.

The automaker has not released complete specifications for the two new V8 engines. Output from the larger 6.6-liter engine is expected to be in the mid- to high-400-horsepower range, although official figures remain unconfirmed.

Each engine will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The full engine lineup for the 2027 Sierra 1500 includes a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four, a turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax V6, a 5.7-liter V8, and a 6.6-liter V8, as reported by Motor1.

Redesigned Exterior and Technology-Focused Interior

The exterior design of the 2027 Sierra 1500 takes inspiration from the Sierra EV, with updated lighting elements and a more vertical grille design. Each trim level will feature distinct front-end styling, contributing to visual differentiation across the range.

Inside, the cabin introduces a more technology-driven layout. The dashboard can accommodate up to three screens, though GMC has differentiated the Sierra’s configuration from the Silverado. A central feature is an articulating 16.3-inch digital infotainment display that can move to reveal a storage compartment.

The interior also offers an 11.5-inch front passenger screen with an articulating cover, allowing it to shift between a full display and a reduced interface. The model is also available with a MultiPro center console designed to function as a workspace, reflecting a multifunctional approach to interior design.

Trim Levels and Flagship Configurations

The 2027 Sierra 1500 will be available in four trims: Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali. Each version is intended to cater to different usage profiles, ranging from work-oriented configurations to luxury-focused models.

The AT4X variant introduces off-road-oriented hardware, including 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, Multimatic jounce control dampers, and front and rear e-locking differentials. The trim also features a 2.0-inch suspension lift, a unique grille insert, and a more rugged front bumper, alongside an available AEV Edition package.

The AT4X interior includes enhanced seat bolsters, unique trim accents, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Standard equipment also includes a panoramic sunroof and stainless-steel speaker grilles.

At the top of the range, the Sierra Denali Ultimate is described as the flagship model. It will feature the 6.6-liter V8 engine and more than 60 inches of combined in-cabin screen space, including multiple digital displays such as a head-up display and a digital rearview mirror. It also includes a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system and a three-year Super Cruise subscription, along with forged wood interior accents.

Pricing for the 2027 Sierra 1500 will be announced later, with the current 2026 model starting at $41,095 including destination charges. The AT4X and Denali Ultimate trims currently sit in the mid-$80,000 range, and pricing for the updated 2027 model is expected to change, though final figures have not yet been released.
