“A New Era” Video Hypes McLaren-Honda Formula 1 Partnership
After twenty years of Mercedes-built engines, McLaren will be going back to Honda next year, with both of them hoping for a return to their past winning ways. To amp up the excitement and expectations, McLaren posted to YouTube the following “A New Era” video, which teases the upcoming McLaren-Honda partnership in anticipation of the 2015 Formula 1 season. The brief clip also provides a glimpse of the new MP4-29H/1X1 hitting the track at Silverstone Circuit earlier this month. Take a look:
McLaren-Honda – “A New Era” Video
In the video’s description, McLaren states, “Between 1988 and 1992, McLaren-Honda dominated Formula 1, winning 44 grands prix and eight world championships. In 2015, that partnership will be reforged. As we get ready for our new era in F1, we invite you inside the garage to witness first-hand the reunion of McLaren and Honda, and watch the MP4-29H/1X1 take to the track for its first ever run.”
Honda left Grand Prix racing when it parted ways with McLaren, then came back and funded it’s own team for several seasons, then retiring once again after only one victory. Now the Japanese automaker is “getting the band back together,” so to speak, by reteaming with McLaren. Whether the “new era” of McLaren-Honda will prove as successful as the old era remains to be seen.
