Vin Diesel Names New Baby Pauline in Memory of Departed Friend
Although Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are often best known as co-stars, there’s no denying that the pair were, before all else, best friends. After starring in five of the seven Fast & Furious films together, the two formed a very special bond, which made the news of Walker’s death after a car accident in November of 2013 all the more devastating for Diesel. At a recent preview screening of Furious 7, which is due out April 3rd, Diesel told the crowd that, when the accident happened, “I lost my best friend. I lost my brother.”
It was only fitting then that when he and his girlfriend recently had their third child together, a baby girl, they named her after Diesel’s late best friend.
“I named her Pauline,” Diesel told Natalie Morales of Today. Even if you don’t know the relationship between Diesel and Walker, and even if you’re not a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise, this is still incredibly perfect. I got chills the first time I heard the news, but it’s what he said next that really moved me: “He was in the room. There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord, I just knew he was there. It felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world.”
You can see the magical moment in which Diesel tells Morales below, but be ready for the goosebumps:
