Wuling Launches Long-Awaited Hong Guang S3 SUV
SAIC-GM-Wuling has at long last launched its first SUV, the Hong Guang S3, which joins the venerable Hong Guang family and provides and affordable yet stylish SUV alternative for drivers in China.
The Wuling Hong Guang S3 will be offered in five different variants powered by either a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine or a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Prices start at RMB 56,800 (approximately $8,700 USD) and top out at RMB 81,800 (approximately $12,500 USD).
On the outside, the Hong Guang S3 boasts an intake grille, bumper-integrated fog lights and LED DRLs, diamond-cut mirrors, and a floating roofline.
Boasting a 2+2+3 seating configuration—similar to that of the Hong Guang S—and a versatile amount of cargo utility thanks to a foldable second and third row and a rear cargo area capable of holding four 20-inch suitcases, the Hong Guang S3 utilizes the same platform as the Hong Guang for a 2,800-milimeter wheelbase, 4,655-milimeter length, 1,78-milimeter height, and 1,735-milimeter width. For increased interior utility, the Hong Guang S3 is offered with storage boxes behind the center console and a middle seat storage cushion.
Safety features available with the Hong Guang S3 include Electronic Stability Control, reverse sensing, cruise control, and Hill-Start Hold Control. A multi-link independent rear suspension helps to deliver superlative handling and cabin quietude, adding to the simple yet refined interior aesthetic of black with brown accents. Additionally, the interior of the Hong Guang S3 is marked by an eight-inch LCD information display and USB ports and air vents for all three rows.
