Combining high value, advanced tech, and fun-to-drive performance, the 2019 Hyundai Kona is one of the industry’s most-awarded subcompact crossovers. In recent months, the Kona has won a KBB Best Buy award, made the Car and Driver 10Best Trucks and SUVs list, gained recognition as a U.S. News & World Report Best Subcompact SUV for the Money, and captured the 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award.

The 2019 Hyundai Kona is available at four trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and Ultimate.

What’s New for the 2019 Model Year?

The 2019 Kona largely carries over from the previous year’s model, with a few notable exceptions. First, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning technologies are now standard across all trims. Second, the eight-speaker Infinity Premium Audio system, HomeLink, and Blue Link Connected Car are now available on more trims. Third, the Kona is now available in an additional color: Sunset Orange.

Performance

The 2019 Hyundai Kona offers two powertrain options. The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder. It’s connected a six-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC and generates 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The Limited and Ultimate trims offer a 1.6-liter turbo inline-four engine that delivers 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with a seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission.

Each Kona trim offers standard FWD and available AWD.

Efficiency

The Kona’s 2.0-liter engine achieves 27 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined when paired with FWD. With AWD, those number drop a bit: 25 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined.

The 1.6-liter turbo engine yields 28 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined with FWD. With AWD, it gets 26 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined.

Interior

The 2019 Hyundai Kona provides comfortable, connected surroundings all the way from the base SE trim to the top-of-the-line Ultimate. Standard features include a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a dual-level cargo floor, and a 7-inch color touch-screen display audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SEL adds heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, the Limited offers leather seats and automatic temperature control, and the Ultimate comes with navigation and a Head-Up Display.
