Infiniti QX50 Rolls Out in Amazon Canada Brand Experiment

Shoppers at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre this month were treated to a large display that looked like a nice house posed next to the all-new Infiniti QX50 SUV. It was all part of a partnership it formed with Amazon Canada to make its vehicles more prominent in the minds of Canadian shoppers.

According to Infiniti, its partnership with Amazon Canada has two parts: digital and experiential. The experiential component was the event at Yorkdale, which ran from Sept. 13-22, and marked Amazon Canada’s first shoppable test-drive event. The giant display that caught shoppers’ eyes was meant to look like more than just a house, but an expensive home with the latest technologies to represent Infiniti’s new tagline, “Luxury Should Be Lived In,”. Visitors inspired by the display could sign up on-site to take a test drive.

This is not the first time that a member of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has teamed up with the e-commerce giant. Back in 2014, Amazon delivered full-size Nissan Versa Note vehicles in giant boxes and a package locker. In 2017, some Japanese consumers could even order a Nissan vehicle from the Amazon website.  

Showing a new car off at a shopping center is nothing new, and, quite frankly, something Infiniti or its dealers probably did in North America before Amazon Canada came along. What makes this partnership special is the digital piece.

Qualified Amazon customers can visit Amazon Canada’s site before Oct 31 to register for a test drive at their preferred Infiniti dealership. If they complete the test drive, their reward is a $50 gift card to Amazon.ca (while supplies last). While it’s possible drivers only sign up for the test drive for that sweet Amazon cash to use on the latest music or videos, the hope is that the luxury of driving an Infiniti leaves a good impression for the next time they’re shopping for cars.
