4 Car Museums in New York State
There’s more to New York State than just the Big Apple. The Empire State is filled with beautiful scenery, cozy towns, and gigantic waterfalls. It’s also home to a rich automotive history, which is highlighted at the following four car museums.
Saratoga Automobile Museum
The Saratoga Automobile Museum’s mission is to teach the public about the history of the automotive industry in New York and throughout the country. The museum opened in 2002 within the Saratoga Spa State Park’s Saratoga Bottling Plant. Exhibits focus on the cars of the ’60s, pioneer women in automotive’s early days, and racing within New York State. Visit the museum from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week in August, Wednesday-Saturday from January-March, and Tuesday-Sunday from April-December.

Northeast Classic Car Museum
Located in Norwich, the Northeast Classic Car Museum first opened its doors in 1997. Its collection of classic and vintage vehicles range in age from 1899 through the early 1980s and span five connected buildings. Permanent exhibits pay tribute to cars from the 1970s, cars made in New York State, and pre- and post-war vehicles. In total, the museum features more than 170 unique vehicles. The Northeast Classic Car Museum is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
New York Museum of Transportation
If you’re interested in learning about different types of transportation through the ages, head to the New York Museum of Transportation near Rochester. The museum features a collection of antique trolley cars, a fire truck, an ambulance, and an operating model railroad. You can also take a ride on an 87-year-old trolley car to experience firsthand what transportation was like in the early- to mid-20th century. Plan your visit in advance, as the museum is only open on Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum
The Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum features an impressive collection of Buffalo-made transportation over the years. The collection includes a 1902 Buffalo Electric Stanhope, a 1918 Pierce-Arrow 7-Passenger Touring Car, and a 1948 Playboy.
