The Google Pixel 4 is Able to Detect Car Crashes
The Google Pixel line of smartphones may be best known for its high-quality camera, but the all-new Pixel 4 has something to add: advanced automotive safety. Google’s new Personal Safety app will include a feature that can detect if you’ve been involved in a car crash and call 911 if necessary.
If your Pixel senses that you’ve been in an accident, it will first sound an alarm to catch your attention and present you with two options: “I’m OK,” or “911.” If you can’t or don’t respond, the alarm will sound a second time and offer the same options. If you fail to respond again, the application will automatically contact emergency services and provide them with your location to get you help as soon as possible.

You can also upload personal medical information to the app, which will be available to the first responders dispatched to address your accident in the event that you can’t tell them yourself. Additionally, Google Personal Safety allows you to list several emergency contacts who you can choose to notify in the event of any danger, car-related or otherwise
As with any new technology, there are bound to be some hiccups in the beginning, so Google provided a few disclaimers. To begin with, they admitted that there could be false positives, especially depending on your driving habits. So, if you’re planning on off-roading with your Pixel in your pocket, you may want to disable the feature before hitting the trail.

At the moment, it appears that the feature will only be available in the U.S., and it’s unclear whether it will eventually find its way to older Pixel phones. Regardless, if the system works, it could go a long way towards increasing emergency response times and saving countless lives.
